The climbs along the Pacific Range have been tough during days one and two, but the views have been spectacular. The route is scenic, but after two days and 130 miles, I am only 5 miles East!
Hey Gar! What a beautiful view! Wish I could be riding with you or better yet in a little side car attached to your bike. Ha! I'm sure you'll run out of rain soon. There can only be so much of that stuff, right? Have a wonderful 3rd day! Love, Me
Darn! I didn't think the Portland Rose Festival Curse (rain, always) would reach all the way to the coast. Well, look at it this way: you don't need to pay for a nice warm, dry motel room in order to take a shower....
Hi Gary! Have a great ride. The NY Vogts will be checking in on you regularly. Did you put the playing cards in your spokes like you wanted to do? It'll make you feel like you have an engine...really.
You are the Man! I wish I had the courage and strength to tackle such a journey. Keep that reflective vest on. Stay hydrated and eat to fuel the engine! Let me know if you need a drop shipment of Hammer Gel or Endurlytes. Stay safe and I look forward to following your journey.
Big Gar', Mary and I left some Twinkies for you next to a big rock in Jackson Hole. Facing the sun it will be the one on your left. We fled because of the snow last week. Dan & Mary
Wow Gary!! What a beautiful sight to see...too bad about the rain. Just talked to Lise and said she had talked to you. Keeping up with you daily and hope you are pedaling along. Push hard and just keep singing as you go, it might help! Wishing you the best and waiting each day to see what you have done. Love, Diana
Hi Gary! What a nice view! Hope things are going well and you are enjoying your trip! Think all the wonderfull places you will see and give 100% everyday! Best wishes! PS: I entered the law school!!!!
Hello! What an honor for us to have met you at the very beginning your great journey!~ Enjoy Oregon's famous liquid sunshine. May you have a wonderful and safe adventure, and lots of sunbreaks along your route.
Unreal Gary, sure wish I could burn that many calories in a day, but with you doing all the hard work! My body hurts just thinking about it! Safe journey.......
Remember, for every mountain you climb, there will be a nice downhill run! I've got some extra butt balm that I'm happy to send to you!!!! Keep on truckin'!!
Good to meet you at Belknap. I have 2 days to go so I know you have a lot of great sights and experiences in store. Cheers. Andy. Www.transamericatrailcycle.com
Gary Hicklin, how the hell are you doing. The pictures are incredible but you have to stop taking all these breaks or you won't make it back here until 2009. If you are burning over 4,000 cal. a day, I know what sport I am going to take up. Wishing you the best.
Gary You are doinng awesome and it seems that you are meeting some very nice people along the way. Love the pics keep on pedaling. Marina The gilrs started open gym and you were missed, Carlye is enjoying playing with the girls and say Hello Marina

Welcome to my blog site.
Hopefully from this site, you can track my cross-country bicycle adventure this summer.
The journey will begin on the coast of Oregon, near Astoria, in the town of Warrenton, Oregon. The adventure will end on the Atlantic Coast, via Warrenton, Virginia.
The launch date is set for June 1, 2008. The total mileage is 4000+ miles and should take me about ten weeks. I plan to average 70 miles per day, perhaps more on the plains of Kansas and definitely fewer over 11,000 foot Hoosier Pass. I hope to pedal east on Route 211, into Warrenton, around August 9, 2008.

The view is beautiful Coach Hicklin! I think it's amazing what you're doing. My dad and I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Mr. Hicklin,
You are getting closer...
It is cold and rainy here too with more to come. Watch out for the grizzlies here. I miss the 11 temp and humidity of VA.
