I had a pleasant 8 hour flight from Dulles to Portland, Oregon today, Saturday, May 31, 2008. I am spending my first night at my brother-in-law George Vogt's home in Portland.
In the morning, he will take me to Warrenton, Oregon, on the Pacific coast, to dip my rear tire and begin my journey.

What are you dipping your bike in? I hope that salt water doesn't mess up that shiney chrome (I was talking about the wheel, not your head). And don't eat too much and try and stay in shape during your vacation. Good LUCK, stay Healthy and may you have more down hills than up and more breezes from the back. And does anyone want to make a bet on how many tires Gary's going to use this summer?

Have Fun!!

Gary,
Good luck to you as you pedal east! I thought of you often today as you begin your 4000 mile trek across the USA. I hope your first day was successful and it was all you wanted it to be. A lot of the girls were asking about you and your progress. I will keep them informed as you pedal our way. Keep Pedaling!
Love,
Diana

Day one, how did it go? Because you are behind the wheels, I'm sure it went well. Keep on keepin' on, and the Blue Ridge will be before you soon enough. Ok lots of days from now!!! But hopefully we'll make it go by quicker for you and with you. Best of luck

Gary, you the man!! Just keep the pedals turning....

I'm sure you'll get all kinda of dumb songs stuck in your head along the way. How about "On the road again"? That one will stick with you for the next couple hundred miles!

Hey Gary! Ride on! Ride on!

Here's another song to sing while you're covering those miles..."Ain't No Mountain High Enough" or maybe "Rainy Days and Mondays???

We're with you in spirit!

We have all been missing you at Warrenton, VA and I was just wondering how you have been doing down there in the west.
